Experience
I attended the University of Washington to earn my bachelor's degree in English. I was on the Dean's list, and I also was the recipient of a scholarship that allowed me to fund a research project about American literature. My teaching experience includes volunteering in ESL classrooms. There, I help students learn social studies, math, and English. When I work with students, I focus on identifying their strengths, areas of opportunity, and learning style. Each student should be taught using the methodology they respond to best. I can tutor a number of different subjects, but my specialties are essay writing and English. When I help students develop essays, I lead them through the process of collecting information, planning their argument, and then writing a concise and polished piece. I help students learn everything from writing effective sentences to the overall structure of the entire essay. My goal when I tutor students in writing is not to help them right one good essay, but to help them develop writing skills that they can use throughout their academic career and life. I love teaching, and I find it very fulfilling. I'm looking forward to visiting Africa soon, where I will have the opportunity to teach students as a member of the Peace Corps.
