Jo L.
Private tutor in Kirkland, WA
Education
Ph.D. (2012) in political philosophy, the Australian National University; MA (2008) in philosophy, Western Michigan University; LLM (2008) from Monash University. I also hold a BA (Hons) and LLB.
Experience
I was a professor of moral and political philosophy at Virginia Tech between 2012 and 2014, teaching undergrads and grad students in philosophy of law, global ethics, ethical theory and philosophy of race and gender. My teaching evaluations are available upon request. As a grad student I also taught Critical Reasoning, Introduction to Philosophy, Intro to Ethics. I TAed Metaphysics and Race/Gender. As an undergrad I completed a triple major for my BA (with honors!) in Philosophy, History and Politics. I've also been to law school, and was admitted to legal practice in 2005. I approach teaching informally; my students find me approachable and affable. I can aptly assess a student's needs and devise a lesson plan specific to their interests. I make complex course material easily relatable to students, while maintaining high academic standards.

Hobbies
Although I immensely enjoyed my work as a professor and researcher, I recently left academia to become a video game journalist. I love gaming and think that it can be a great learning tool. I also am passionate about reading, pop culture and roller derby. In my spare time when I'm not doing any of the above things, I'm also a foster parent for two ferrets, and I can make some great cupcakes.
