Experience
I earned my degree in geology-environmental studies from Whitman College. Following graduation, I was employed at a pair of diverse outdoor schools, which fostered my teaching skills. These opportunities allowed me to teach ecology courses and other courses that centered on teamwork and personal growth. I also crafted lesson plans and tailored these plans to fit various age groups, personalities, and each state's requirements. The classes I taught encouraged my students to engage with their surroundings. I also worked on creating an environment conducive to learning while motivating them to ask their own questions. Each school was set up to work with rotating groups for three days. This format taught me how to be dynamic and adaptable as well as how to establish rapport quickly - critical skills for ensuring my success. Overall, I'm adept at teaching algebra, calculus, geometry, math, pre-calculus, trigonometry, Spanish, French, Latin, reading, writing, geography, public speaking, science, and social studies. I'm additionally qualified to help students with preparation for standardized tests that include the SSAT.My personal philosophy is based on the ideal that education centers on the learning process, not only the details. Because of this belief, I work to integrate experiential education into my lesson plans.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, reading, writing, listening to music, baking, and penning poetry.
